CVS Health responded to the people’s crackdown on tampon taxes in a big way, and there’s nothing I like more than a grand gesture. The pharmacy announced on its website that it would improve access to period care in several ways. See what you think about shopping for feminine products–and where you should go–after reading this.
The new initiative aims to help women access affordable and effective period care by expanding its research and products available in stores. Out of all the states, 27 of them still tax tampons by considering them a luxury product according to Tax Free Period. Though 23 states currently do not have a tampon tax in place, the issue has sparked debate about what is essential regarding women’s healthcare.
CVS has decided to pay its customer’s taxes on period products in Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. Furthermore, they’ve reduced the price of CVS Health brand period products by 25%.
Another service for period care that CVS provides in stores is MinuteClinic. Aside from general health and wellness exams, MinuteClinic provides STI screenings, birth control injections, and pregnancy tests. If you are interested in menstruation screenings, you can also receive treatment for PMMD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), PMS, irregular periods, and menopause.
To visit with one of CVS’s board-certified healthcare providers, make an appointment in-store or virtually.
