Women can do it all, but we are much stronger when we work together. For a long time, we have relied on organizations to bring justice to the inequalities we face. Whether it’s due to racism, poverty, or misogynistic policies, we need these organizations to provide solutions for all women, especially those disproportionately affected. See below for nine hardworking organizations I think you should follow.
Period.
PERIOD. is a global youth-fueled nonprofit that strives to eradicate period poverty and stigma through service, education, and advocacy. Through the distribution of menstrual products, promotion of youth leadership, and championing of menstrual equity in policy, PERIOD. aims to center those disproportionately affected by period poverty and support local efforts for menstrual equity.
Center for Reproductive Rights
The Center for Reproductive Rights is a global human rights organization of lawyers and advocates who ensure reproductive rights are protected in law as fundamental human rights for the dignity, equality, health, and well-being of every person.
Global Fund for Women
We fund bold, ambitious, and expansive gender justice movements to create meaningful change that will last beyond our lifetimes. Global Fund for Women was founded in 1987 in Palo Alto, California, by four bold women: Anne Firth Murray, Frances Kissling, Laura Lederer, and Nita Barrow.
Black Women’s Health Imperative
BWHI is the first and only national non-profit solely dedicated to achieving health equity for Black women in America. Founded in 1983 by Byllye Y. Avery as the National Black Women’s Health Project at a conference on the campus of Spelman College, BWHI has evolved into a nationally recognized organization leading health policy, education, research, knowledge and leadership development and communications designed to improve the healthy outcomes of Black women.
National Organization for Women (NOW)
As the grassroots arm of the women’s movement, the National Organization for Women is dedicated to its multi-issue and multi-strategy approach to women’s rights, and is the largest organization of feminist grassroots activists in the United States.
Equality Now
Equality Now is a feminist organization using the law to protect and promote the human rights of all women and girls. We create, reform, challenge, and apply the law to establish enduring equality for women and girls everywhere. Our international network of lawyers, activists, and supporters has held governments responsible for ending: legal inequality, sexual exploitation, sexual violence, and harmful practices.
The Brigid Alliance
The Brigid Alliance books, coordinates and pays for travel, travel expenses, and child care, serving as a single, trusted point of contact for every step of abortion care. Wherever someone needs to get to abortion care in the U.S., we find a way to get them there – through direct support and in collaboration with our network of partners.
Alliance for Period Supplies
The Alliance for Period Supplies works across the United States to bring an end to period poverty. We connect and support organizations that provide period support in their local communities.
I Support the Girls
I Support the Girls collects and distributes essential items, including bras, underwear, and menstrual hygiene products, allowing women and folx experiencing homelessness, impoverishment, or distress to stand tall with dignity.
